The story begins with her Indian great-grandmother from Pune, who married a British military officer in 1888 during the British occupation of India. Their life in England was characterised by the genteel customs of the era, where formal afternoon teas in both the home parlour and garden were integral to family life.

Scarlet was inspired to preserve this beautiful tradition, and sought to offer travellers an opportunity to experience the ritual of British afternoon tea and comfortable accommodation. She envisioned a space that would seamlessly blend British and Indian cultures while reflecting her passion for interior design and hospitality. Her desire was to create an inviting environment where guests could enjoy affordable luxury. Scarlet crafted stunning spaces with attention to comfort and elegant accommodations for her guests in ‘The Cottage,’ alongside the pleasures of both exquisite teas and chai.

Fort Kochi, a picturesque seaside town in South India, emerged as the perfect backdrop for the next chapter In Scarlet’s life. Known for its captivating charm and rich history influenced by Dutch, Portuguese, and British architecture, the location resonated with her vision. In 2024, Scarlet meticulously renovated a century-old stone home, transforming the surrounding neglected land into a lush, welcoming garden oasis. This enchanting retreat is designed for discerning travellers who seek a unique blend of comfort and nostalgia, where the elegance of British-Indian heritage comes to life.
